If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you wonât be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? And if you are not faithful with other peopleâs things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?7
How you view your world and what you already have is so important. Do you count your failures, or do you count your blessings? Do you look at a glass as half full or half empty? (And by the way, I have a secret for youâthe glass is actually completely full, half with water and half with air, both of which are crucial to our lives!) Do you have everything you need to take your next step in Godâs plan for youâor every time you think of that step, do you start counting what you donât have and then end up so discouraged that you just shelve your hopes?
I believe that God likes to multiply more than add. God is a 30-, 60-, 100-fold type of Creator, not a plus one, plus two, plus three type of Blesser. But you know what a hundred times nothing is? Still nothing. God can multiply only what you have, not what you need. When Jesus was faced with a crowd of 5,000 hungry people, did He create food out of thin air to feed them? No, He took a little boyâs lunch of five barley loaves and two fishes that were given to Him and multiplied it to feed the multitude.8 Do you have the attitude of the little boy? He looked at what he had and decided to share it rather than saying it was not enough. Do you look at what you have and think itâs not enough to get you where you want to be and, therefore, refuse to even start? Or do you turn to God and say, âHere is what I haveâhow do I use this to get where You want me to go?â It doesnât matter how little you start with but what you do with it.
Do you have such a sufficiency? I believe the answer to that question is âyes.â
Did you know that the Greek word translated sufficiencyâαá½ÏάÏκειαâappears in the same form only one other place in the New Testament? That is in First Timothy 6:6, where it is translated contentment: âNow godliness with contentment is great gain.â9 Another translation of the word would be âenough.â It seems to be a concept the apostle Paul understood, for in another place, he says:
